The Italian Job

Gormanston Park continued its long history with exchange students recently when we welcomed 79 Italian students. The students stayed for one week, with the aim being to improve their English and have some fun along the way.

What they got up too

They attended English classes in the morning, which freed up the rest of the day to go and have fun. They visited nearby attractions such as Newgrange, Tayto Park and Dublin City. They were provided with recently renovated accommodation which is perfect for groups. We can provide double and single ensuites, as well as single and dorm style rooms with shared facilities. Each room comes with fast free WiFi, which means they could contact family back home or just to relax in the evening. They had access to our TV room with numerous channels, pool table and they also enjoyed a few games on our footgolf course which has been a huge hit since its introduction.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner was provided for the students by our top chefs Eddie O’Connor and Dave Fitzmaurice who also tailored meals to suit individual requirements. They were a pleasure to have and we hope you come and visit us again.

Gormanston Park welcomed Down footballers

Recently Gormanston Park welcomed the County Down minor football team. They were preparing for the tough season ahead with numerous league and championship games to play. The team underwent an intense training camp to prepare them physically and mentally for the challenges they will face in the season ahead. They stayed in Gormanston Parks newly refurbished rooms, which provide a comfortable and relaxing place to rest after a hard days work.

Training Hard!

They were put through their paces with strenuous gym sessions, circuit training and of course pitch sessions on our two GAA pitches to keep their touch in. In the evening they were able to analyse past games in our green room which is equipped with a 65” TV, and also has numerous t.v channels to watch during their free time. The team were also free to use our gaming facilities which include a full size pool table and they were also free to use our newly opened footgolf course. If the competition during the Footgolf tournament is anything to go by, there is no worry about them being competitive come championship. It was also great to see the defenders give the forwards a run for their money.

The team is coached by James McCartan, who played senior for Down in the 1950-60s while also managing Down in the 1980’s. We would like to wish them luck in the season ahead, we’re sure they will do great.

Basketball Ireland

For more than 20 years Basketball Ireland have been attending Gormanston Park to train, develop future stars and host summer camps for players from all over the country which runs in July. During May we hosted various Irish basketball teams ranging from the u-15 to the seniors. It is always great to see the stars of the future as well as the best Ireland has to offer.

Each team took part in our full training camp which includes accommodation, catered food (which can be tailored to each group) and of course access to Irelands largest indoor sports complex, consisting of 4 full sized basketball courts which have recently been refurbished.

Our top of the range group accommodation is perfect for groups of all sizes.  We can provide single, double and 6 people dorms which are a hive of fun at night. Teams can analyse games and relax in our TV room, enjoy a game of pool or footgolf and have access to our free WiFi.

Between tough training sessions, tasty nutritious food is provided to restore those energy levels. Games can also be organised to get every bit out of the camp. Best of luck guys.

A Warm Welcome to the Dubai Hurricanes

We gave a great big Irish Fáilte to the Dubai Hurricanes, who will be spent a week with us. We were thrilled to have them here and they had a great stay.

During the stay, the lads trained hard, played a few matches on our rugby pitches, tested out our new footgolf course and relaxed in our new TV room. We wished them the best of luck in the matches and asked them to take it easy on the Irish lads 🙂

“…amazing service!!! Even the weather was kind enough to us.”

– Kerri Low, Dubai Hurricanes

About Dubai Hurricanes Rugby Club, Dubai, UAE
The Dubai Hurricanes formed in the autumn of 1999. For our first few years we operated purely as a Seniors social club, arranging friendly matches with the established club sides in the UAE and entering 7s and 10s tournaments throughout the Gulf region and Asia. Due to the dedication of a large number of volunteers, the club has grown significantly during our short history and we have witnessed huge success and development both on and off the pitch.
